Extra Life Game Day 2024

Extra Life is a national fundraising program of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, perfect for anyone who loves playing games! From video games and livestreaming, to tabletop games and family game nights, any game can be an Extra Life fundraiser! Funds raised support University of Iowa Health Care Stead Family Children’s Hospital to fund critical life-saving treatments and healthcare services, along with innovative research, vital pediatric medical equipment, and child life services.

Extra Life Game Day is the largest activation for our participants, happening on the first weekend of November each year. Across the country, gamers launch their 24-hour marathon charity streams and gaming events! This year, we had about 40 total participants who activated on Game Day, raising a grand total of $28,390 for our hospital in just one weekend! Everything from retro games like Mario, Goldeneye, and Donkey Kong to modern multi-player action games like Overwatch, Call of Duty, and Fortnite .The weekend was packed with gaming action.

Seeing the variety of gameplay was only one part of the Game Day festivities. The other fun part is seeing the personalities and excitement of our participants as they fundraise throughout the day, receive donations, and hit their goals! There were a lot of happy tears shed, personal stories shared, heads shaved or hair colored, eating of gross/spicy foods, pies-in-the-face, and so much more. Each person does something different and unique, which makes for a one-of-a-kind fundraising program experience!
