Meet CMN champion, Riley!

Riley was diagnosed with a Wilms tumor, which is a rare kidney cancer that mainly affects children, when she was 17 months old. Doctors removed the Stage 1 tumor, along with her right kidney, two days after diagnosis. Though Riley and her family were very fortunate to catch this cancer early, Riley’s health care team recommended that they proceed with chemotherapy due to the tumor’s size and weight; they wanted to ensure it hadn’t spread to any other areas in her body. She underwent 19 weeks of chemo, and doctors declared her as showing no evidence of disease right before her second birthday. For the first three years after her diagnosis, she had quarterly follow-up scans, including CT scans, ultrasounds, and X-rays, and then she moved to having scans every six months for two years. In 2023, Riley had her first “survivor” appointment, and she will continue to have yearly checkups. We’re thankful for her entire health care team.
