Mason City Walmart Volunteer Makes Special Impact for University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital

The annual Walmart fundraising campaign to support CMN is currently active; it’s the first national fundraiser to proceed during the originally scheduled timeframe among Covid-19 reschedules. The managers and associates of Walmart stores are committed to keeping a clean and safe space for their customers as they encourage donations at the register.

In addition to asking their guests to support University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital at checkout, each store has come up with fun and unique ways to raise additional funds through employee giving and in-store activities.

One volunteer, however, stands out from the rest.

Miss June is a volunteer at Walmart #810 in Mason City, Iowa. She has been with Walmart for over 25 years and has been an inspirational advocate for the CMN campaign during her tenure at Walmart. Mason City Walmart store Champion Rhonda said “Miss June is always helping out in and out of the campaign. During the campaign she is sitting at tables asking customers for donations, and in November we have a craft show and she brings in different crafts, she’s always doing anything she can do to help out, whenever we need her”.  When asked why Miss June does what she does and why Miss June thinks it’s important to support CMN Rhonda said, “Miss June always says it’s not just for her, it’s the whole team, it’s for the teamwork, she is just doing her part, and it’s something that’s always been important to her. She is just such a high spirit, and I hope that I can live to be 96 and be that strong of a person”.

Over the holiday weekend Miss June set a goal to raise $500 for Children’s Miracle Network and promised to die her hair red white and blue if she met her goal. I am happy to report that over the Fourth of July weekend she was able to exceed her goal and personally raise over $700 and sport a new patriotic ‘do, (proof pictured below)!

Throughout the 2020 campaign Mason City has consistently remained a top 3 fundraising store, raising just over $11,436 for University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. They will finish this year’s campaign with a final in store event, titled “June Jailbird” where they will do a Jailbird rock theme as one last final push for this year’s campaign.

University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital is proud to partner with Walmart on such a large and passionate campaign each year. The hospital is especially grateful for people like Miss June who work so hard to help connect the philanthropic customers of Walmart to the cause.

Since 1987 Walmart and Sam’s Club associates, customers, members, and volunteers have raised more than $1 billion to #HelpKidsLiveBetter! Let’s keep a good thing going, give at your local Walmart or Sam’s Club today!
